Carly Wasserman
Occupational Therapist - James Bay
Carly completed her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at University of California, Santa Barbara in 2010 and graduated from the University of Southern California in 2014 with a Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy. She moved from Los Angeles, California to Ontario in 2019 and is now residing in British Columbia.
Carly has practiced occupational therapy in schools, home-based settings and outpatient pediatric clinics. She values collaborating with children and their families to enhance daily living skills in ways that align with their personal goals. These goals and interventions include:
· Fine motor skills (i.e. handwriting, touch typing)
· Emotional regulation skills
· Sensory-based strategies
· Social skills
· Gross Motor Skills
· Reflex Integration
She believes that this team-centered approach creates an environment for children in which they are set up to approach all aspects of life to the best of their abilities.
While in Ontario, Carly had the opportunity to work with remote First Nations communities to provide school-based services according to the interests and needs outlined by community members. Carly is looking forward to continuing the journey of learning how to best offer occupational therapy services to indigenous communities in ways that support community-led initiatives.
Her favorite occupations are hiking with her family (which includes two dogs!) and gardening.
