Occupational Therapist - James Bay
Area of Expertise: Emotional regulation skills, Sensory-based strategies, Social skills, Return-to-work, PTSD and trauma-informed care, Mental health rehabilitation, Routine building
Jessie holds a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Alberta. Her work is driven by a commitment to promoting both physical and mental health through a trauma-informed, holistic, and client-centered approach. Jessie is dedicated to advocating for equal community participation and addressing barriers to occupational engagement.
She works closely with clients to understand their unique barriers to community participation. Recognizing that recovery is non-linear, Jessie collaborates with clients to set meaningful goals that support their return to work and daily functioning. Combining evidence-based practices with creative problem-solving, Jessie aims to develop tailored strategies that think "outside the box."
With experience across diverse age groups and settings—including acute care, geriatric psychiatry, pediatrics, and adult mental health—Jessie has developed a particular interest in supporting individuals experiencing PTSD. Her work spans the continuum of care, from hospital to home to community, offering her a well-rounded perspective on the recovery journey.
Originally from Calgary, Jessie enjoys skiing, hiking and backcountry camping in the Rocky Mountains. Now on the island, she looks forward to further improving her surfing and scuba diving skills!
