Better Health Starts with Lasting Change

Your daily health habits (what you eat, your level of physical activity, your substance use, and your sleep) influence your overall health far more than any other healthcare you might receive to treat specific issues.

As we all know, developing good habits is harder than it seems. That’s why we’ve created a new professional discipline – behavioural science experts who are trained masters at getting you to change your habits. We call these remarkable clinicians Change Coaches.

With rigorous training in behavioural science and deep knowledge of scientifically supported techniques, our coaches are uniquely positioned to help build your toolbox with helpful skills and the self-awareness needed for successful change. This is unlike any other “health coach” you’ve heard of.

How can Change Coaches help?

Do you know what you need to do to reach your goals, but struggle to follow through? We work with you to zero in on the habits and outcomes that matter most to you. Then, we help you build the toolbox you need to make and maintain meaningful change. The best part? The tools you develop with us are certain to come in handy for any other changes you decide to make throughout your life.

And many more health-related behaviour changes!

Change Coaching also helps with…

  • There’s a common myth that “willpower or motivation” is all it takes to develop new habits. But, behavioural science has shown us that this couldn’t be further from the truth. Instead of continuing to simply “try harder” and blaming yourself when you fail, our change coaches can empower you with proven methods to make those changes for good.

  • An upfront investment in building healthy habits is guaranteed to save you money and stress in the long term. Imagine saving all the money you may be spending on junk food, takeout, alcohol, or even unused gym memberships. Changing your health habits also reduces your risk of disease later in life (and the bills and stress levels that often come with it).

  • Are you a clinician? Learn how referring your patients to Change Coaching can help improve their outcomes.

Although most clinicians understand the central importance of patients’ health behaviour, they are generally ill-prepared and/or lack time to offer targeted behaviour change interventions. Even when patients know WHAT to do, they often struggle with the HOW. That’s where Change Coaches can help. Improving patient outcomes by helping them develop an approach to tackle change.

FAQs

  • Behavioural science is the evidence-based study of how people behave, and why.

Behavioural scientists look at the impact of factors such as conscious thoughts, motivation, social influences, contextual effects, and habits. In particular, behavioural scientists investigate why people sometimes behave in a way that may not maximize their well-being, such as making choices in the present that do not maximize their happiness in the future. They also examine how seemingly arbitrary contextual factors influence people’s decisions, beliefs, and attitudes. (More Info)

  • Change is hard to maintain because over time, people tend to stop doing the things that helped them make the change in the first place. Life happens and they get distracted or off track in one way or the other. Perhaps they move, start a new job, or take a long-anticipated extended vacation. Their new health habits slip and before they know it, they have drifted towards their old ways.

The keys to managing behavioural drift involve anticipating high risk situations where things might go off track, catching it at an early stage, and having a plan to deal with it when it happens. Change coaches are experts at helping people develop solid plans for dealing with this eventuality.

  • In order to establish successful change, it’s important initially that you meet with your change coach at least once every two weeks. In addition, your change coach will schedule brief weekly ‘check-ins’ between appointments to discuss your progress. The brief check-ins between appointments are provided at no extra cost to you.

  • Unfortunately, Change Coaching is not covered by extended health care at this time.
