Steve Young

Physiotherapist - Cordova Bay

Areas of Expertise:

Chronic Pain, Spinal Stenosis, Spinal Pain, Shoulders, Hips, Knees

Steve Young's journey into physiotherapy was shaped by his early immersion in sports, including soccer, rugby, baseball, and hockey. However, it was a knee injury during his athletic pursuits that ignited his passion for rehabilitation and led him to pursue a career in physiotherapy. Through his own recovery process, Steve discovered the profound impact of physical therapy on restoring mobility and enhancing quality of life.

Steve's academic achievements underscore his commitment to excellence in the field. Graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy from McMaster University in 1999, he later earned a Transitional Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the Evidence in Motion Institute of Health Professionals in 2015. Complementing his clinical expertise, Steve also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria. Despite his rigorous academic pursuits, Steve's true passion lies in patient care. With over two decades of experience as a physiotherapist, he has managed diverse orthopaedic caseloads and led rehabilitation teams specializing in complex persistent pain. From his early days as a therapist to his current position at Tall Tree Integrated Health, Steve remains dedicated to empowering patients on their journey to recovery.

In addition to his clinical practice, Steve is actively involved in advancing the field of physiotherapy through education and research. As an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC), he plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of physiotherapists. He also is one of the founders of AMP Healthcare Education where Steve organizes and teaches continuing education courses, sharing his expertise with fellow professionals. Steve's contributions to the field have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Physical Therapy Association of British Columbia's Peter Huijbregts Memorial Award in 2024 and the Physical Therapy Association Award of Clinical Excellence in 2014. His dedication to teaching extends beyond the classroom, as he serves as a mentor and clinical preceptor for aspiring physiotherapists, guiding them towards excellence in practice.

In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Steve has made significant contributions to the academic sphere as an editor, author, and presenter. He has served as Chief Editor of the Orthopaedic Division Review, where he was responsible for curating journal content and shaping discourse within the physiotherapy community. Furthermore, Steve's expertise has been showcased through numerous scientific presentations at prestigious conferences, where he has shared insights on topics ranging from therapeutic alliance to evidence-based management of spinal disorders. His dedication to advancing knowledge and fostering dialogue underscores his commitment to excellence in both clinical practice and academic inquiry.

A lifelong learner, Steve remains committed to staying abreast of the latest advancements in physiotherapy, ensuring that his practice remains at the forefront of evidence-based care. Outside of his professional endeavors, Steve is an avid cyclist and enjoys backcountry hiking, immersing himself in the natural beauty of Vancouver Island. His holistic approach to health and wellness mirrors his philosophy of care, emphasizing the importance of physical activity and enjoying nature in achieving optimal well-being. As a trusted physiotherapist and compassionate healer, Steve Young embodies the spirit of care and dedication, empowering his patients to live their lives to the fullest.

My husband and I started physio with Steve Young after a car accident and he has helped us both immensely. We started at another Physio and she wasn’t even close. I can’t stop recommending him. The front staff are top notch and it is a beautiful, modern facility. Happy we found it!
